I ran the 2 terminal commands (this was before I installed Skype) and give the output ~ $ inxi -Fxzd I installed Skype, was not prompted for a webcam or anything else, and when I launch Skype it is a miserable little screen and there seems to be no access to voice or video. Sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pj-assis/testing To install this using the PPA method, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one: You can install this great webcam software which might help with your Skype software as well. There are many posts in this forum on "Skype", and "Skype Alternatives", etc. Sip Voip apps like "Linphone", "Ekiga", etc. My favorite is "qTox" (QTox) which can communicate securely with any other people using any "Tox" client on any computer operating system, Jitsi, "Ring", "Wire" (created by Skype developers), Telegram?, etc. There is a new Linux version of Skype available for download, but last I read, it did not support video calls ? There are however other multimedia chat messaging applications that are secure and available to install and use in Linux Mint, MS Windows, or Mac. If you installed the Skype from the Linux Mint repositories (Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)), then it should be working fine. I trust by now that you know "skype" is not a secure means of communication. FYI: Do not use a Passive USB hub (4-port or 8-port) without its own power supply because that will not work in Linux Mint or will not work well, or worse will work intermittently. There is no good reason I can think of why your webcam is not working with Skype in Linux Mint. If you run " inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information. It would help to know more about your system setup.
